Cork mortar is a game-changer when it comes to making homes more energy efficient

In fact, not all houses can have an insulation layer a few inches thick (especially do so if you can).

With only a thin layer, cork mortar provides thermal insulation, moisture control, mold protection and improved acoustics.

Cork has a cellular structure that can be thought of as a honeycomb of tiny bubbles. Those bubbles “trap” the air and make the air stay still.

Stagnant air is a poor conductor of heat. So these bubbles in the cork ensure that heat loss remains minimal.

Cork mortar additionally absorbs moisture and releases moisture when needed.

If moisture is managed properly, insulation works better because you don’t lose heat to moisture.

Yet another advantage: cork mortar can be applied by plasterers (with the plasterer’s trowel), painters (with the brush and roller) and (airless) sprayers.

So there is a whole group that can make homes more energy efficient.

A group that, in part, is sometimes less busy in the winter because there is no outdoor work.

Cork mortar thus speeds up the insulation process in existing homes, which is especially nice now that winter is upon us.
